Swiss wines, bearers of the Pinot Noir heritage, once again excelled at the Mondial des Pinots Competition. Swiss winemakers showcased exceptional mastery, with their vintages captivating the palates of the judges and securing top positions in different categories.

Mondial des Pinots is part of VINOFED, the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions, which currently includes 15 competitions worldwide. Under the sponsorship of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the Swiss Union of Oenologists, the jury, composed of professionals from various backgrounds, convened from November 3rd to 5th at the Town Hall in Sierre to taste around 870 samples presented by 263 producers from 13 countries. Alongside Pinot Noir, the jury also had to evaluate wines based on Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, two variants naturally obtained through genetic mutation. Tasters highlighted the overall high quality of the samples presented and were able to award two Grand Gold, 110 gold medals, and 140 silver medals.

The awards ceremony took place during VINEA on Tour, within the majestic Zunfthaus zur Meisen on November 23rd, 2023, in Zurich. After the welcoming words from the VINEA president, Jonas Ettlin, and in the presence of Paolo Basso, the world’s best sommelier, the laureates were called to the podium by Fabienne Bruttin, VINEA director, and Michaël Balmer, the competition’s coordinator.

During the Festival of Awarded Pinots that followed the event, the public was invited to discover the awarded wines from over twenty producers present on-site.
