In just a few days, Montréal will welcome the international jury of SMV, composed of 12 commissions bringing together experts with diverse profiles: oenologists, journalists, and trade professionals. All are preparing to evaluate the best wines, sakes, and ciders from around the world.

Entries closed on September 15, and the verdict is clear: SMV 2025 promises to be exceptional with more than 1,550 products registered, representing 26 countries.

Despite a year marked by challenges – trade barriers, climate conditions, and evolving consumption patterns – producers have risen to the occasion with unwavering motivation. Their ambition? To stand out in global markets and see the quality of their products recognized by an exceptional international jury.

A huge thank you to them for their trust… and let the competition begin!

A World-Class Competition

SMV 2025 remains the largest international competition in the Americas showcasing the most extensive representation of European wines.

This year, more than 835 wines come from the four major producers: Portugal, France, Italy, and Spain. Adding Central and Eastern European countries brings the total to 67% of all entries, highlighting the continent’s remarkable viticultural diversity.

For the second consecutive year, Portugal stands out as the most represented country, with more than 294 products entered in the competition.

Innovation and Renewal

SMV 2025 also highlights fast-growing categories: sakes, organic wines, low-alcohol wines, and alcohol-free wines. These trends reflect market evolution and bring fresh energy to the competition.

A Unique Program for the International Jury

Beyond the competition, SMV 2025 offers an unforgettable experience:

  • Opening evening and dinner on the theme of Bordeaux with the CIVB and Crus Bourgeois

  • Wine encounter with Brazil, in collaboration with the Brazilian Association of Oenologists

  • Masterclass on the surprising wines of Czechia, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, the Vinarsky Fond, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canada, and Niche & Nosh

  • Original exploration of the world of sakes, in collaboration with NTA Japan

  • Exclusive tasting of star white wines from Languedoc, in collaboration with the CIVL

Sélections Mondiales des Vins is more than a competition—it is a true global gathering of wine, right in the heart of the Americas, in Montréal.
