Here are some statistics relating to the 2024 edition, which took place in Montreal, from October 9 to 12, at the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ):
- Over 1,630 wines have been registered.
- The jury will consist of 60 expert judges from 19 countries.
- 30 countries are participating, with Portugal presenting the largest number of products (293). The Czech Republic also made a spectacular entry with 54 wines entered, a first in North America.
- 60% of the wines presented are red, and 40% are white.
- The introduction of the new sake category has led to the registration of 83 products, which will be evaluated by a specialized jury.
- In collaboration with Degré Zéro, the non-alcoholic/low-alcohol category boasts over 60 registered wines.
In addition to the competition, several initiatives have been put in place by SMV to contribute to the visibility of the competition and its winners:
- The publication of the Top 50, highlighting the best award-winning wines.
- In mid-October, a two-week advertising campaign in collaboration with La Presse to present the top 30 best wines already on sale in Quebec at the SAQ.
- A tasting event of award-winning wines from several participating countries in 2024 was held on October 29, 2024 at the ITHQ in Montreal.
- In 2024, SMV hosted the General Assembly of VINOFED, the federation bringing together 15 international wine competitions.
