The Crus Bourgeois du Médoc will be in the spotlight at the opening night of the 2025 edition of Sélections Mondiales des Vins on October 8. This collective of passionate winegrowers embodies all the richness and diversity of the Médoc, between estuary and ocean. On the verge of new recognition, they are unveiling their freshly released 2025 Classification, which distinguishes 170 estates across the Médoc appellations. A rigorous classification, reflecting their commitment to quality, the environment, and the promotion of their terroir.

The Crus Bourgeois du Médoc bring together a collective of nearly 120 winegrowers with eclectic, epicurean profiles, deeply attached to their peninsula between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean.

Proud of this exceptional winegrowing terroir, committed to their land and with their feet firmly on the ground, these men and women are driven by the desire to raise the quality of their wines to the highest level, to cultivate and share the authentic, convivial art of living of the Médoc, and to embody their estate wines.

Published at the beginning of 2025, the Classification of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc distinguishes 170 Crus Bourgeois: 120 Crus Bourgeois, 36 Crus Bourgeois Supérieurs, and 14 Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels.

Spread across the various Médoc appellations (Médoc, Haut‑Médoc, Listrac‑Médoc, Moulis‑en‑Médoc, Margaux, Pauillac, and Saint‑Estèphe), the estates are classified for a period of five years.

Each cru was blind‑tasted by a panel of 10 independent tasters over five different vintages and had to achieve a sufficient level of quality. Estates were also required to hold an environmental certification in order to be recognized as a Cru Bourgeois.

For the additional designations (Supérieur & Exceptionnel), the crus had to achieve a higher quality level and hold multiple environmental certifications. Finally, they had to submit a detailed file presenting various aspects of the estate according to specific technical, commercial, and promotional criteria.

A final jury of six experts, chaired by Philippe Faure‑Brac — head sommelier and winner of the title “Best Sommelier in the World” in 1992 — anonymously reviewed the tasting results and the submitted file to determine which crus could obtain an additional designation.

To promote this new Classification, the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc launched a communication campaign focused on moments of wine enjoyment, built around a new brand signature: Beyond the Labels.
