The high quality of the wines presented by the producers at this edition can still be seen in the SMVC competition, while more than 20% of the products obtained scores above 91 points for the gold and Grand gold medals.

SMVC 2022 is proud of its Top 50 made up of 49 Grand Gold medals of 93 points and more, a first!

The major producing countries of Europe, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy are doing very well for a total of 345 medals, which represents 64% of the medals awarded.

Portugal takes the prize for medals with 112 medals, including 11 Grand Gold, which represents 37.7% of the 297 wines registered.

Portugal presents a very good performance being the country with the most medals with its 11 Grand Gold medals for its wines coming in particular from the Tejo, Alentejo and Setúbal regions.

Spain was awarded 90 medals out of 301 registered wines, or 29.9% medals for products from all of Spain with participation from Castilla y León and Rioja.

Italy and France are not left out; with more than 512 wines presented, these two countries won 28% of the medals. For France, the Médoc regions (with crus bourgeois) and wine from the south of France performed very well. On the Italian side, Sicily won several medals, as did Tuscany and Piedmont.

The variety in the types of wines presented was also there. Wines produced using sustainable, organic, biodynamic, natural or orange vinification methods represent more than 14% of the wines entered in the competition.

A new trend in the competition is the significant presence of sparkling wines; out of more than 144 wines presented, 41 medals were awarded, representing 28.4% of the wines presented, a very good performance.
